Hey, I’m Josh and I run Rhythm You Should Hear
In 2017 I was a young college student finding my way, saying yes to a lot of things.
One of those yes’s led me to the backside of a seemingly derelict building just outside of downtown Victoria.
People splayed out into the parking lot, a tiny house door as an entrance, music leaking out.
This was my first handful of times experiencing underground electronic music.
I spent the next year religiously partying at Love Island every 2 weeks.
I was a dancer.
I miss those days sometimes.
I am on the other side as an organizer now, which I love too.
Years later I met Robbie, the person behind Love Island and we became friends.
I wrote an artist write up for Robbie that still sticks:
“Robbie’s disregard towards normality is inspiring."
Some go “uhh…”
Some love it.
There is always awe.
A multifaceted artist, he’s Caio, Void Mirror, DJ Robbie.
A craftsman in producing and selecting tracks.
We don’t always understand and don’t need to.
Our feet understand it.
Since 2017, he’s maintained our right to dance.

Before Love Island is where it is, it was called the rat shack - a punk venue.
There’s a lot of history in the spaces we dance.
If you’re curious enough, you’ll come to learn it.
I asked Robbie to play an open to close.
I really enjoy letting a DJ have enough time to wander.
Find multiple pockets.
Do the thing.
2 hours is good-okay.
More is better.
Less than 2: RUSH doesn't live in that bullshit mainstream avenue trying to cram 20 tracks into 60 minutes.
Could be your thing, it isn't ours.
To this point, a standout moment of DJ Robbie’s set was when he played 3 or 4 10-15 minute tracks back to back.
Robbie has said, “if there’s an extended version. I’m playing it.”
I respect that.
Sometime before this, at another party he played Donna Summer’s Try Me, I Know We Can Make It.
This song had escaped me before this.
Since hearing it, there hasn't been a week where it has not played.
It’s been 6 months and I can't get it out of my head.
DJ Robbie tossed this on during his extended version marathon and we danced for 17 minutes and 56 seconds of pure bliss.
I love her for making this song.
I love him for playing this song.
But maybe he just played 4 songs in an hour because he wanted to breathe.
I didn’t ask.
Who knows.
We don’t need to.
It worked.
