Hey, I’m Josh and I run Rhythm You Should Hear.
I invited the Quilt crew to do a collaboration party with RUSH.
These were young guys’ that I’d met through Club Loading.
They were fervent CL heads.
Fast forward, they started to throw parties too, under the name Quilt.
First a takeover of their friend's house, then a takeover of a friend's business, then the creme de la creme: they took over an abandoned Traveler’s Lodge motel.
It was my favourite party of 2025.

Lot’s of things come and go and it's fun to be a part of them.
So in love with what they’re doing, I wanted to join forces and we did, and it was magical.
Quilt DJ’s Dual Citizen (Nick), Malek (Zack) and Trakstar (Dexster) helmed the booth and delivered a graceful climb from doors opening ambient melodies, to climaxing Sally C tracks to a gentle farewell of The Cure Lullaby for our coming down Night People.
A few thoughts from me, Josh:
I was sitting in my little lighting booth perch when I experienced a moment when everything synched, music, energy, crowd, lighting and in the booth and I just went “wow,” to myself.
Time didn’t slow but the feeling was imprinted in me.
I teared up and felt that strong physiological emotional surge.
A sense that I have come to trust: “this is meaningful.”
Rick Rubin talks about this Sense in his book A Creative Act: A Way of Being.
I’d felt this years before reading this book and when he wrote about it, I knew what his words meant.
When doing soundcheck and setting up for a party I'm usually very work focused, get the tasks done:
Turn on the PA.
Test the lights.
Set up the stanchions.
Update the team, etc.
Quilt rolled up before the party with a few friends and they hung about as we got everything in order.
It was a really good reminder to live in the present, all the people in the room were friends and I was RUSHing around to get everything set up.
I stopped for a sec, reminding myself, I live in the NOWNOW - thanks Damen Albarn.
These little moments mean more than you think when rocking the chair and wrestling with nostalgia.
This was the party where I got the idea to start taking DJ pictures in the walk-in fridge.
This is totally an homage to Club Loading, where we repurposed walk-in fridges for coatcheck, lounge space - inadvertently creating an inside smokeroom - storage space and even converting one into urinals - that's a really long story.
Walk in fridges have become a throughline.
I’m going to keep it going.
We went to Love Island afterwards - a downside to only partying to 2 AM at RUSH but also an upside - you yourself get the chance to be a Night Person.

A few words from Dual Citizen:
I still think that first Rush//Quilt party is one of my favorite parties we've thrown.
As much as I don't care for what Boiler Room has turned into these days, there's something undeniably special about having the booth crowded with your friends when the energy is high.
So much love towards all the homies that came that night, there was something special in the air for sure. Also Hips Yo Thighs (Sally C) has to have one of my favorite bouncy baselines of all time.
The energy in the room during that song is something I'll remember for a long, long time.
